Revolutionised Cancer Treatment!
The Spotlight Radiotherapy Appeal was launched in 2023 by Southend Hospital Foundation with an ambitious two-year aim of raising £600,000 to revolutionise radiotherapy delivery at Southend Hospital.
With an overwhelming level of support from local businesses, community groups and supporters the appeal surpassed its target and reached a total of £920,000 in Summer 2025.
Money raised from the appeal funded Surface Guided Radiation Therapy (SGRT); state-of -the-art technology which now allows radiotherapy to be delivered with greater precision and speed.

Over 385,000 people in the UK are diagnosed with cancer every year. That’s one person, every 90 seconds, whose life is suddenly changed. These numbers are more than just statistics; they are friends, family, neighbours — each facing their own battle.
Southend Hospital’s Vital Role
The Cancer Centre at Southend Hospital alone delivers around 30,000 doses of radiotherapy treatment each year. This vital care reaches approximately 2,500 patients from across Mid and South Essex, ensuring they receive life-saving treatment close to home with a team that truly cares.
