Pinpoint Cancer Appeal

2005–2007

Delivering Precise, Life-saving Cancer Treatment

Pin Point Appeal

Hot on the heels of the Healing Hearts Appeal, the Foundation launched the Pinpoint Cancer Appeal in 2005, aiming to fund a revolutionary image-guided radiotherapy system.

This advanced technology produced far sharper images than a standard CT scan and, true to its name, allowed radiation treatment to be delivered with pinpoint accuracy—targeting tumours directly while minimising damage to surrounding healthy tissue.

By 2007, the appeal had successfully reached its £480,000 target. Southend University Hospital became only the seventh hospital in the UK to have access to such cutting-edge equipment. The impact was immediate and significant—over 500 patients each year benefited from reduced side effects, greater preservation of healthy tissue, and an improved chance of successful treatment outcomes.
